It was Budget Day in Ottawa - Finance Minister Jim Flaherty tabled the Federal budget late yesterday afternoon. The Department of Finance aimed to make this year's budget more accessible online, introducing a more user-friendly website layout and encouraging social media use. Those interested in the budget, were able to receive and share budget live tweets by following @financecanada and the #eap13 hashtag. Minister Flaherty (@jimflaherty) himself also took to Twitter throughout the day.

The budget itself contained a number of initiatives on health and innovation, including a new investment of $15 million in annual funding for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research and $165 million for Genome Canada. But the Globe and Mail's Konrad Yakabuski wonders if it will be enough.
Meanwhile, the Government of Canada marked Poison Prevention Week 2013 (March 17-23), reminding Canadians about the danger of unintentional poisoning - one of the leading causes of injury among children.
