Cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada, with two in five Canadians expected to develop cancer within their lifetimes. That’s why we’re joining millions across the globe in supporting #WorldCancerDay 2016, a time to raise awareness and take a “hands-on” approach in fighting and preventing cancer under the theme “Talking Hands.” The event sponsor, the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), is asking for your help in the global effort to spread the message that #WeCanICan take action against cancer.
You can join the global conversation about #WorldCancerDay by writing a message of inspiration or support on your hand and sharing it through your social networks. By doing so, you’ll be connecting with a network of patients, survivors and their loved ones around the world. If joined together in reality, these hands would likely make a chain of compassion and awareness that could circle the globe.
An estimated 196,900 new cases of cancer and 78,000 deaths from cancer occurred in Canada in 2015. However, if our country’s longstanding commitment to medical discovery tells us anything, it’s that the fight to find effective cancer treatments is one that we can win. That’s why our industry invests billions of dollars into research and development of new therapies to treat cancer each year; our continuing focus on innovation and collaboration will ensure that people continue to benefit from new medicines that will help them live longer and healthier lives.
This #WorldCancerDay, we urge you to lend a hand in our mission to raise awareness and continue the search for life-saving discoveries to end cancer.
